Compressor Installation Conditions

The selection of installation sites is most overlooked by staff. Often, after purchasing a compressor, one randomly finds a location and uses it immediately after piping, without any prior planning. Little did they know that such a hasty result resulted in difficulties in compressor maintenance and poor compressed air quality in the future. So choosing a good installation site is a prerequisite for the correct use of air compression systems [12].
1. A spacious and well lit area is required for easy operation and maintenance.
2. The relative humidity of the air should be low, with less dust, clean and well ventilated air.
3. The ambient temperature must be below 40 ℃, as the higher the ambient temperature, the less air output from the compressor.
If the factory environment is poor and dusty, pre filtration equipment must be installed.
5. Reserve access roads, and those who meet the conditions can install overhead cranes for maintenance purposes.
6. Reserve maintenance space, and there must be at least 70 centimeters or more between the compressor and the wall.
7. The compressor should be at least one meter away from the top space.
matters needing attention
Precautions for piping, foundation, cooling system, and air piping [12]:
When piping the main pipeline, the pipeline must have a slope of 1 ° to 2 ° to facilitate the discharge of condensed water in the pipeline.
2. The pressure drop of the piping should not exceed 5% of the set pressure of the compressor, so it is best to choose a larger pipe diameter when piping.
3. The branch pipeline must be connected from the top of the main pipeline to prevent condensate from flowing down to the gas equipment. It is best to have a one-way valve in the compressor air outlet pipeline.
4. When several compressors are installed in series, ball valves or automatic drainage valves must be installed at the end of the main pipeline to facilitate the discharge of condensate.
5. The main pipeline should not be arbitrarily reduced. If it is necessary to reduce or enlarge the pipeline, a reducing pipe must be used, otherwise there may be mixed flow at the joint, resulting in significant pressure loss and affecting the service life of the pipeline.
If there are purification buffer facilities such as air storage tanks and dryers after the compressor, the ideal piping should be the compressor+air storage tank+front filter+dryer+rear filter+fine filter. In this way, the air storage tank can filter out some condensed water, and at the same time, the air storage tank also has the function of reducing the gas exhaust temperature. Air with lower temperature and less water content can enter the dryer again to reduce the load on the dryer or filter.
If the air consumption of the system is large and the time is short, and the instantaneous air consumption changes greatly, it is advisable to install an air storage tank as a buffer (its capacity should be greater than or equal to 20% of the maximum instantaneous air volume). This can reduce the frequency of frequent loading or unloading of the compressor unit, reduce the number of control component actions, and have great benefits for maintaining the reliability of the compressor operation. In general, an air storage tank with a capacity of 20% of the exhaust capacity can be selected.
8. For compressed air with a system pressure below 1.5MPa, the flow rate in the delivery pipe must be below 15m/sec to avoid excessive pressure drop.
9. Try to minimize the use of elbows and various valves in pipelines to reduce pressure loss.
The ideal piping is the main pipeline surrounding the entire factory building, so that compressed air from both sides can be obtained at any location. If there is a sudden increase in gas consumption in a certain branch line, the pressure drop can be reduced. And appropriate valves should be installed on the circular main line for maintenance and cut-off purposes.
Installation foundation
1. The foundation should be built on a hard floor. Before installation, the foundation plane must be leveled to avoid vibration and noise caused by the compressor.
2. If the compressor is installed upstairs, vibration prevention measures must be taken to prevent vibration from being transmitted to the downstairs or causing resonance, which poses a safety hazard to the compressor and the building itself.
3. The vibration generated by the screw compressor is very small, so there is no need to make a fixed foundation. But the ground on which it is placed must be flat and the ground must not be soft soil. It is best to lay soft or shockproof pads on the bottom of the compressor to prevent vibration and noise.
Cooling system
When choosing an air-cooled compressor, consider its ventilation environment. Do not place the compressor near high-temperature equipment to avoid inhaling high-temperature atmosphere and causing excessive exhaust temperature, which may affect the normal operation of the unit [12].
2. When the compressor is installed in a small confined space due to the restrictions of service conditions, it is necessary to install extraction and exhaust equipment to facilitate air circulation. The capacity of the extraction and exhaust equipment must be greater than the exhaust volume of the compressor cooling fan, and the location of the exhaust inlet must be suitable for the location of the hot exhaust outlet of the compressor.
